The WindSmart Drive Train System (DTS) is a hydraulic drive train system for wind turbines that uses advanced wind power technology to enable efficient energy capture in variable speed wind turbines.
In variable speed wind turbines, the WindSmart hydraulic drive train system will replace the gearbox and electronic systems to allow for variable speeds using a high torque, variable low speed hydraulic motor / pump, and a high-speed pump. For present fixed-speed wind turbines, the WindSmart hydraulic drive train system will replace the gearbox and significantly increase the performance of the wind turbines by allowing for variable speed operations. In both cases, much of the equipment in the nacelle can be re-located to ground level or in the tower, resulting in a lighter nacelle, potentially lighter tower construction, and maintenance that is more convenient, accessible, and less expensive overall.
